Price fall in large-caps drives stocks down

DHAKA, March 18, 2019 (BSS) -Stock markets closed on Monday of the week with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.

The falling major sectors were insurance, tannery industries and engineering. A total of 221 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 50.92 points down at 5,604.90. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 9.82 points down at 1,283.02 and with 5.76 points down at 2,017.90.

The daily trade fell to 8.82 crore shares from Thursday’s 10.45 crore shares and the day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 882.26 crore from Taka 1,045.36 crore of the previous session.

At DSE, out of the day’s 345 securities, prices of 42 securities closed higher against 279 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were Marico, RECKITTBEN, EASTRNLUB, GHCL and BATBC. The major losing companies were United Insurance, Legacy Foot, Agrani Insurance, Takaful Insurance and BD Auto Cars.

BRAC Bank topped the turnover list followed by BATBC, UPGDCL, Square Pharma and Dutch Bangla. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 205.97 points down at 17,145.25.

At CSE, 231 issues were traded. Of those, 26 closed higher and 191 closed lower when 43.96 crore shares worth Taka 17.50 crore changed hands.
