Building knowledge-based enlightened society stressed

RANGPUR, Mar 18, 2019 (BSS) – Officials and literary personalities at a function here have stressed on building book reading habit by common citizens to build a knowledge-based enlightened and more peaceful society.

They expressed the view in concluding function of an 11-day ‘Swadhinota Rangpur Book Fair-2019’ organised by Rangpur Sommilito Lekhok Samaj marking the Independence and National Day-2019 on the Public Library ground on Sunday night.

“Thirty-four stalls were set up on the fair premises by 22 publication houses from the capital city and 12 literary organisations from Rangpur city,” Member-secretary of the fair organising committee Rezaul Karim Jiban told BSS today.

“The visitors purchased books worth Taka 25-lakh, including novels, story books, dramas, poem collections, books on the War of Liberation and history, books for children and other popular books, displayed in the book fair,”
Jiban added.

Seven literarily personalities were honoured in the function with the ‘Swadhinota Rangpur Book Fair-2019 Memorial’ citations for their laudable contribution to the field of literature.

They are: Dr. Mofizul Islam Mantu, Aftab Hossain, Salma Setara, Broz Gopal Roy, Monwara Begum, Badal Rahman and Nazrul Mridha.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Enamul Habib attended the concluding function and distributed citations as the chief guest with Convener of fair organising committee Sayeed Sahedul Islam in the chair.

Joint Convener of the fair organising committee poet Manjil Murad Lavlu, freedom fighters Akbar Hossain and cultural personality Anwarul Islam Raju addressed.

The speakers laid emphasis on increasing habit of reading books by all people to acquire knowledge in building an enlightened society to further enrich Bengali cultural and literary heritages.

The chief guest called for arranging similar book fairs frequently to inspire the people, especially young generations, in building book reading habit to enrich their knowledge on literature and culture.
