RANGPUR, March 01, 2018 (BSS) – Agriculture experts at a farmers’ field day
today called upon farmers for adopting the latest technologies in
cultivation, preservation and processing of high yielding BARI variety
potatoes to earn more profits.
They said the farmers can get 33-35 tonnes of potato yield per hectare
through cultivation of all 79 high yielding and more nutritious BARI variety
potatoes innovated by Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI).
They came up with the opinion at the event organised by the Tuber Crops
Research Centre of BARI in association with its Regional Agriculture Research
Centre at Burirhat on the outskirts of the city.
The main objective of arranging the event was to demonstrate the research
results and farming, harvesting, preserving and processing technologies of
the BARI ALU-27, BARI ALU-28, BARI ALU-29, BARI ALU-41, BARI ALU-52, Late
Blight Resistant (LBR) variety BARI ALU-46 and BARI ALU-53, BARI ALU-4, BARI
ALU-7, BARI ALU-8, BARI ALU-25, BARI ALU-31, BARI ALU-48, BARI ALU-49, BARI
ALU-50 and BARI ALU-51 potatoes to the farmers on the exhibition plots.
Chief Scientific Officer of Rangpur Regional Agriculture Research Centre of
BARI at Burirhat Md Rais Uddin Chowdhury attended the event as the chief
guest with its Principal Scientific Officer Dr Ashish Kumar Saha in the
chair.
Senior Scientific Officers at Regional Agriculture Research Centre Dr
Obaidul Haque and Dr SM Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Gangachara Upazila
Agriculture Officer of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md Abdullah
Al Mamun attended the event as special guests.
The chief guest called upon the farmers for expanding cultivation of high
yielding BARI variety potatoes to earn more profits and meet nutritional
demand of the population.
