DNC’s anti-drug media campaign begins

DHAKA, March 1, 2018 (BSS) – The Department of Narcotic Control (DNC) today formally started its media campaign against drugs to create awareness among the people to prevent drug abuse to save the new generation from its adverse impacts as part a government move.

DNC Director General (DG) Md Jamal Uddin Ahmed inaugurated the media campaign against drugs through a press conference at its headquarters at Tejgaon in the city.

“The anti-drug media campaign will also be launched in all district through press conferences in collaboration with the Press Information Department (PID),” he said, adding that the PID will give updated information about the campaign every week through press release.

“Thirteen television commercials (TVCs) against drug abuse prepared by the DNC have already been sent to the concerned departments and organizations of the Information Ministry for taking necessary measures to air those through different televisions and radios,” he said.

The decision of starting the media campaign against drugs from today was taken yesterday (Tuesday) at an inter-ministerial meeting at the Information Ministry with its State Minister Tarana Halim presiding.

As part of the campaign, television commercials titled “Love Your Life, Stay Away from Drug” will be aired by all television channels and radio stations simultaneously from at 8:50 tonight.

The DNC chief requested all the media to come forward to help the government in making the campaign a success for the greater interest of the nation.

Mentioning the DNC’s success in combating drugs, he said, “We arrested 651 drug peddlers and filed 11,612 cases and conducted 39,585 drives in the last year and this time we will further strengthen the nationwide drive against the menace,” he said.

Asked about the government move against the most popular drug yaba, he said, “We have already handed over a list of 50 yaba producing factories to the Myanmar government for taking immediate measures to shut those. But, we have not yet got any response from them.”

Among others, DNC Director (operation and intelligence) Syed Toufique Uddin, Deputy Director (Dhaka metro) Mukul Jyoti Chakma and Assistant Director Khurshid Alam were present on the occasion.
