Students’ cabinet formed in 4,268 edu institutions in Rajshahi div

RAJSHAHI, March 14, 2019 (BSS)- Students Cabinets have been formed in 2,765
secondary schools and 1,503 madrashas with direct voting in all eight
districts under Rajshahi division today (Thursday) to make the students
respectful toward democratic practice and values from childhood.

The government took the initiative to form an eight-member ‘Student
Cabinet’ comprising one head representative and seven cabinet members in
every secondary schools and madrashas.

The portfolios of the student cabinets are preservation of environment,
sports, health, cultural programmes, tree plantation, observation of
different days and other activities.

Deputy Director of Department of Secondary and Higher Education Towhid Ara
told BSS that a total of 34,144 representatives have elected with direct
voting by the students in the division successfully.

She said the students performed as Election Commissioner, presiding
officers, polling officers and security personnel during elections held from
9 am to 2 pm without any break.

Within next seven days, first meeting of the cabinet will be held where
associate members will be selected and an annual action plan will be
formulated.

Towhid Ara added that the initiative would help the students to understand
the ideas of democracy and opinions of others, helping teachers to curb
dropout rates at the educational institutions.

As a whole, the student council will help maintain healthy atmosphere in
the school and try to make irregular student regular through counseling.
