PM to hand over Bangabandhu Jatiya Krishi Puroshkar tomorrow

DHAKA, Feb 28, 2018 (BSS)- Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over tomorrow the “Bangabandhu Jatiya Krishi Puroshkar 1423” (Bangabandhu National Agriculture Award 1423) to individuals and organisations, who have made contributions to different fields in agriculture.

Agriculture Ministry is organising the handing-over ceremony at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city.

Marking the award giving function, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages greeting the award-winner individuals and organisations.

In his massage, President Abdul Hamid described agriculture as the driving force behind the economy as the sector is closely related to the country’s culture over the years. So, the development of agriculture means overall development of the country, he added.

He urged all, including farmers and agriculturalists, to continue their efforts for diversification of crops and to ensure the optimum use of land, modernization of agriculture and innovation of new varieties of crops and technologies.

The President hoped that the award will encourage the individuals and organisations to make their best efforts for developing agriculture sector.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had introduced the Bangabandhu Jatiya Krishi Puroshkar in 1973 in order to take forward the agri-based economy of the newly independent country.

She said the Awami League government has been taking different agro-friendly policies and time-befitting initiatives since 2009 for development of agriculture sector in the country.

“The government is providing different incentives to the farmers, including agriculture equipment and fertilizer and seeds at minimum
prices, and facilities of soft loan, ten taka bank account and cash incentive,” the premier added.

She said Bangladesh has achieved self-sufficiency in food production, focusing on modernizing agriculture sector. So, successes of the country’s agriculture sector are being appreciated in the global community.
