Govt working to achieve country’s economic freedom: Tofail

SANGSAD BHABAN, March 11, 2019 (BSS)- Senior ruling party leader Tofail
Ahmed today said the present government is working to achieve economic
freedom of the country which was dreamt by Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujibur Rahman.

“Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had two dreams–one was freedom of the
country and the second one was economic emancipation of the people…Now, his
daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to bring the second one,” he
said while participating in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the
President’s speech in the House.

On January 30, 2019, President M Abdul Hamid, in his address, focused the
development of the various sectors which was achieved under the leadership of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the last 10 years.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had achieved the independence of the
country during his lifetime, said the ruling Awami League (AL) leader, but
the second one was not possible to achieve as he was killed with his family
members by the miscreants on August 15, 1975.

Paying respect to the memory of Father of the Nation, Tofail said after the
death of the great leader, we (AL leaders) gave leadership to Sheikh Hasina,
one of his two survived daughters after the assassination on August 15, and
then Awami League came to power first in 1996 after 21 years since 1975.

“After coming to power in 1996, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina started
the trial of Bangabandhu murder case,” he said, adding that but the ruling
Awami League was defeated in a conspiracy during the election in 2001.

Then the country again turned back and its development and the spirit of
the Liberation War again trapped in conspiracy by the anti-liberation forces
led by the BNP and Jammat, said the AL leader.

But, the AL led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina again came to power and
started the much-awaited war crimes trial and she also turned the country to
a height of dignity in the international arena, he told the House.

“Bangladesh which was once a bottomless basket but now it has entered into
a medium income country,” said the former minister, adding that now the
country has become a role model of the development under the leadership of
Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina.

Tofail forecasted that the country is now going forward and would be a rich
nation under the leadership of Shiekh Hasina through fulfilling Bangabandhu’s
dreamt by 2041.
