CHAPAINAWABGANJ, February 26, 2018 (BSS)- A child drowned in the Padma river at Harma Ferrighat area under Debinagar union in Chapainawabganj sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The victim is Shihab Ali, 7, son of Abdul Karim of Chardebinagar Hefaj Uddin Biswaser Tola village under the same upazila.
Station officer of Rajshahi Fire Service Office Farid Uddin and a ward member of Debinagar UP Nurul Islam said, Shihab came to the house of his maternal grandmother in the area and he fell into the river while playing in a boat at around 4 pm.
Being informed, a rescue team from Rajshahi Fire Service came to the spot and started rescue operation at around 6 pm and recovered the dead body at around 7-30 pm, the sources added.
