‘Musa was a pioneer of country’s modern journalism’

DHAKA, March 5, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at A B M Musa Memorial Speech today said Musa was one of the pioneers in country’s modern journalism as he guided the industry towards the right direction through his knowledge, merit and intelligence.

They said Musa also played a pivotal role during the country’s war of liberation against the Pakistani forces.

ABM Musa–Setara Musa Foundation organized the program to mark Musa’s 88th birthday at Jatiya Press Club (JPC). During the ceremony, A B M Musa Award on Sports’ Journalism was also handed over.

Former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor A A M S Arefin Siddique was present as chief guest with JPC President Saiful Alam in the chair.

The Daily Kalerkantha Senior Reporter Noman Mohammad was given the award for his work in sports journalism.

Poet and Journalist Sohrab Hossain gave ABM Musa memorial speech for this year. He said although Musa was a journalist but he was never out of touch with politics as he was one of the founder of Gonotantrik Jubo League. “His political career ended with the killing of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he added.

Sohrab said later, Musa engaged himself in full-time journalism and became a pioneer to propel the journalism industry to this stage.

Recalling the contribution of A B M Musa, Arefin Siddique said Musa contributed in all sections of news paper such as news, makeup, business etc to create the base of modern journalism in the country.

Shwadhin Bangla Football Team Captain Zakaria Pintoo, A B M Musa’s son-in-law Barrister Aftab uddin and his daughter Dr. Sharmin Musa, among others, also spoke on the occasion. Professor Robayet Ferdous of Dhaka University conducted the ceremony.
