Govt working as servant rather than ruler: Speaker
RANGPUR, Mar 01, 2019 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangshad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury here today said the government is working as the servant rather than the ruler for ensuring welfare of the people.
“The only goal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is development of the country and peace for its people,” she said at a civic reception accorded to her by Pirganj people on her election as the Speaker for the third consecutive time on Pirganj Government Shah Abdur Rouf College premises as the chief guest.
The Speaker said the people of this country joined the bloody War of Liberation irrespective of their race, religion, caste and creed immediately at the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“The Bangalee Nation snatched away the red flag of independence under leadership of Bangabandhu in exchange for supreme sacrifice of three million martyrs and honor of two lakh mothers and sisters of this soil,” she said.
The ‘Khoka’ (child) of Tungipara (birthplace of Bangabandhu) was fearless in establishing rights of the Bangalees, she said.
“Bangabandhu has established rights of the Bangalees enduring jail life, torture and oppression throughout his struggling life,” Dr. Shirin said adding that his able daughter Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly for prosperity of the people following the footsteps of her father.
“Sheikh Hasina does politics for the people and her politics is for development of the people,” Dr Shirin said.
The Speaker said, “I am indebted to Pirganj people as I was elected as a Member of the Parliament with their genuine love and became the Speaker for the third time.” “I will always remember the love of Pirganj people for me with due respect,” she said expressing her firm commitment to remain beside Pirganj people.
Dr. Shirin said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working for betterment of the people. She has taught me politics. I want to learn more from her about politics for improving fortune of the people and leading the country forward.”
The Speaker said balanced development will be ensured in every union of Pirganj upazila.
With Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer TMA Momin in the chair, Principal of Pirganj Government Shah Abdur Rouf College Rashedunnabi Chowdhury, Adviser of district Awami League (AL) Nurul Amin Raja, Acting President of Pirganj upazila AL Azizur Rahman Ranga, its General Secretary and Pirganj municipal Mayor Tazimul Islam Shamim and Cultural Affairs Secretary of district AL Saidul Islam Pintu, among others, addressed the function.
