SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 28, 2019 (BSS) – Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mostafa Jabbar today said the government has earned Taka 12,744 crore as revenue from the foreign phone calls made between 2009-2010 and 2017-2018 fiscal years.
The minister told the House while responding to a starred question placed by treasury bench member Nurunnabi Chowdhury of Bhola-3 with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
The highest revenue Taka 2,075.63 crore was earned in 2014-15 fiscal year, the minister said.
The minister said the government has taken various steps, including fixing the international incoming call termination rate at 1.75-2.50 cents, to increase the revenue earning from the foreign calls.
In 2017-18 fiscal year, the government has conducted 24 drives and seized 15,476 mobile SIMs, he said, adding that a total of 20,58,318 SIMs have been cancelled through the SIM box detection system in the same year.
