DHAKA, Feb 28, 2019 (BSS)- Bodies of two children were recovered from a canal near Bhashantek slums that were gutted in a fire in the early hours of Thursday.

Fire fighters recovered the bodies of two children – one aged two-and-a-half years and the other three months – around 12pm, said Mahfuz Riben, duty officer of the Fire Service control room.

The fire that broke out at 1.30am burnt down about 1,500 shanties in two slums, said fire service DAD Moniruzzaman. Twenty two units from nine fire stations rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control by 3am, he added.

Shanties made of bamboo, had spread out over a government-owned marshland, said Bhashantek Police Inspector (Investigation) Shafiqul Islam.
