Polling continues peacefully in city

DHAKA, Feb 28, 2019 (BSS) – Voting in the by-election to the mayoral post
of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and election to councilor and reserved
councilor posts of both DNCC and the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is
continuing peacefully

A festive mood is prevailing in the polling centers after starting at 8am
this morning.

The voting of DNCC mayoral post and election to councilor posts in 36 new
wards — 18 under the DNCC and 18 under the Dhaka South City Corporation
started this morning and it will continue till 4 pm without any break.

To hold a free, fair and credible elections in the city, Chief Election
Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said that the Election Commission (EC) has
completed all kinds of preparation in this regard.

He said executive and judicial magistrates and required number of law
enforcement agency members have been deployed and there are also EC’s
monitoring teams in the election fields.

Besides, members of different law enforcement agencies have been deployed
as striking forces at different spots while police, BGB and RAB personnel are
patrolling in the city during the election, he added.

Five candidates including Awami League (AL) nominated Atiqul Islam have
been contesting for the mayoral post of DNCC.

A total of 116 candidates are vying for general councilor post and 45 for
reserved councilor post in the DNCC while 125 are contesting for general
councilor post and 45 for reserved councilor post in the DSCC.
