Zakir for protecting Kurigram from rive erosion

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 26, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossen today urged the authorities concerned to take steps to stop riverbank erosion in Kurigram to protect arable land and households.

“Losing agricultural land and houses due to riverbank erosion, many people are being displaced in Kurigram district every year and roaming on city streets. They must be protected,” he told the House while taking part in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President’s address in the Jatiya Sangsad on January 30, 2019.

The state minister called for setting up agriculture-based industry in Kurigram to create job opportunity for local people enabling them to cope with disaster aftermath.

Highlighting the country’s development works carried out by the government in last 10 years, he said it is the people’s expectation that Bangladesh would become a developed one by 2041, which would be free from terrorism and militancy.

Zakir also called upon the authorities concerned to take steps to make the Sonahat Land Port located in Kurigram a complete one.

Recalling the country’s black days, he said the anti-liberation forces killed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members on August 15, 1975 to put the newly liberated country in trouble.

Taking part in discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President’s address, Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu of Barguna-1 said BNP in association with Pakistan tried to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina several times.

He said BNP did not launch any movement in the past to realise the demand of common people and that’s why people rejected the party.

Moin Uddin Khan Badal of Chittagong-8, Md Mozaffar Hossain of Jamalpur-5, Shamsul Alam Dudu of Jaipurhat-1, Salma Islam of Reserve Seat-44, Ataur Rahman Khan of Tangail-3, Aslam Hossain Sawdagar of Kurigram-1, Selim Altaf Jordge of Kushtia-4, Kaniz Fatema Ahmed of reserve seat-8, Juwel Areng of Mymensingh-1, Syeda Rubina Akhter of reserve seat-28, Khaleda Khanom of reserve seat-27 and Basanti Chakma of women reserve seat-9, among others, took part in the discussion.

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a time befitting speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.

Earlier, they paid rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
