Sales rise as book fair nearing to end

DHAKA, Feb 25, 2019 (BSS) – On the 25th day of the month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair, the stall attendants spent busy time dealing with the visitors as big smiles flashed on the faces of the publishers with the fair witnessing a record sale today.

The fair drew a vast number of visitors with only three days left for the end of the month-long extravaganza that showcases books on Bangla literature for booklovers of all ages.

The visitors of all ages flocked to different stalls and pavilions to buy books of their favorite authors. Many of them were seen returning homes with bags full of books.

Talking to BSS, Bangla Academy official Mizanur Rahman said the sale has been increased in the Bangla Academy pavilion as the fair is nearing to end. Sales of different dictionaries, books on Liberation War and books on history and folk culture in the pavilion are higher than any other books, he added.

According to Bangla Academy sources, 145 new books hit the fair today raising the total number at 4,099 this year.

Besides, a discussion titled “Scenario of Translation Literature in Bangladesh” was held at the main stage on the fairground.

Professor Kajal Bandyopadhyay presented a keynote paper in the discussion while Bangla Academy Director General Habibullah Shirajee, Manik Mohammad Razzak, Anisur Rahman, Alam Khurshed and Raju Alauddin took part in the discussion.
