Media role sought to flourish prospective SME sector

RANGPUR, Feb 24, 2019 (BSS) – Officials at a press conference here today sought stronger media role to flourish the prospective local small and medium enterprises (SME) sector for accelerating national progress and enhance economic growth.

The call came at the press conference held at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner to inform the media about preparation of the week-long Rangpur Regional SME Product Fair- 2019 that kicks off here tomorrow on the Public Library ground.

The SME Foundation is organising the fair with assistance of the district administration, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RMCCI), Rangpur Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RWCCI), National Association of Small and Cottage Industries Bangladesh (NASIB) and other SME-related organisations.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib presided over the press conference moderated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir.

Deputy Manger of the SME Foundation Mrs. Nazma Khatun delivered welcome speech narrating the importance, goals and objectives of arranging the fair.

Promotion Officer of BSCIC at its Rangpur office Md. Ehesanul Haque and officials and representatives of different organisations involved with arranging the fair were present.

“The SME Foundation is organising fair to promote local SME sector and create jobs, enhance production of international standard SME products, exhibition and introduction of SME goods for expanding business, trade and commerce,” she said.

The Deputy Commissioner said 69 SME institutions from allover the country, including Rangpur division and women entrepreneurs will set up stalls to display and sale their SME products in the fair.

“A huge spectrum of locally produced SME goods like jute-made products, handicrafts, leather products, processed agricultural products, electrical and electronic goods, clothes, design and fashion wares and other products will be exhibited in the stalls,” he said.

Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari is expected to formally launch the fair at 10:30 am tomorrow (Monday) at a colourful inaugural ceremony as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the chair.

Deputy General Manager of BSCIC for Rangpur AFM Jalal Uddin will deliver welcome speech in the inaugural ceremony.

Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Police Super Mizanur Rahman, RCCI President Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu, President of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju and President of RMCCI Rezaul Islam Milan will attend as special guests.
