Concerted efforts to ensure poultry feed safety stressed

RAJSHAHI, Feb 22, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a participatory discussion
here stressed on collective efforts of all public and private entities for
the effective means of ensuring poultry feed safety.

They also laid stress on good poultry farming practice for ensuring safe
poultry production to keep people free from diseases.

The observations came at a consultation meeting with district and
upazila livestock officers at conference hall of Department of Livestock
Services (DLS) in the city yesterday.

Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) organized the workshop in
association with UKaid and British Council. An Issue-based project on “Food
Safety Governance in Poultry Sector in Bangladesh” supported it.

Divisional Deputy Director of DLS Dr Sheikh Azizur Rahman and its
Assistant Director Dr Humayun Kabir addressed the discussion as chief and
special guests respectively with District Livestock Officer Nizam Uddin in
the chair.

Additional District Livestock Officer Dr Zulfikar Akhter Hossain, Upazila
Livestock Officer Ismail Haque, Field Coordinator of the project Omor D Costa
and its field officers Mohidul Hassan and Mozammel Haque also spoke.

Dr Sheikh Azizur Rahman told the workshop that measures should be taken
to bring all the poultry farmers, traders, feed manufactures, sellers and
others concerned under necessary training to enhance their knowledge in this
field.

All quarters like farmers, hatchery owners, poultry bird sellers, feed
meal manufacturers and sellers and the field level officers and staffs should
work together to this end, he said.

During his concept paper presentation, Agriculturist Mohidul Hassan gave
an overview of the country’s poultry sector. He puts forward a set of
recommendations on how to make the poultry sector safe and hygienic.

Using overrated antibiotic in poultry feed is harmful for public health,
he added.
