SYLHET, Feb 23, 2019 (BSS) – Planning Minister MA Mannan today directed the concerned project directors and other officials of various development schemes under Sylhet Division to implement those in due time and speedily through minimizing wastages as much as possible.

“One project director can’t remain in charge of more than one project and this was the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Everyone will have to follow that directive to reach the benefits of development to the common people,” he said.

The planning minister said this while chairing a review meeting at Sylhet Circuit House on various development projects being implemented at Sylhet Division. Earlier, the minister held such meeting in Khulna.

Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) Secretary Abul Mansur Mohammad Faizullah, Divisional Commissioner Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, Director General of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) Dr Krishna Gain and the concerned project directors were present.

The meeting was informed that out of the ongoing 58 projects in Sylhet Division, the progress of 23 projects is satisfactory, 30 projects have so far witnessed slow progress while the rest of five projects have attained no progress or zero progress.

Hailing those project directors who attained satisfactory progress in their projects, Mannan directed to speed up implementation pace to the slow progressed and zero-progress witnessing project directors.

“We’ve not come here to do ‘blame game’ or scolding the officials, or we don’t have any intention to undermine anyone. Our goal is to speed up the implementation pace and thus complete the projects in due time,” he added.

Mentioning that the present era is now the ‘era of development’, the planning minister said that the main objective of the state is to unleash development while the main objective of development is to ensure peoples’ welfare.

Earlier, the minister held a view-exchange meeting with the divisional officials and employees of BBS held at its office.

Speaking at that function, the planning minister said there is no alternative to BBS for undertaking future plans and thus implementing those. “BBS is an important state organization to implement the SDGs. The BBS also plays a supporting role in the progress and development of the country”.

He also directed the officials and employees of BBS to play more responsible roles in collecting more reliable and accurate data through enforcing strict supervision at the field-level.

Chaired by BBS Director General Dr Krishna Gain, Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury spoke as special guest.
