 DHAKA, Feb 21, 2018 (BSS) – The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations (UN) observed the Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day in New York in a befitting manner.

On the occasion, officials and staffs of the mission led by Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN Masud Bin Momen, visiting members of parliament (MPs) to the New York, Bangladesh expatriates, freedom fighters, cultural personalities, political leaders, businessmen and journalists in the USA placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar temporally set up at the mission at one minute past on February 21, according to a statement of the mission received here today.

They stood in solemn silence for one minute as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the language heroes, the release said.

The USA units of Awami League, Muktijoddha Sangsad, Mohila Awami League, Sramik League, Swecchasebak League, Krishak League, Jubo League, Rajshahi University Alumni Association, Sylhet Sadar Samity and other political and social organizations also place wreaths at the temporary Shaheed Minar in the mission.

Earlier, in observance of the day, a programme was held at the Bangabandhu Auditorium of the mission from 9.30 pm to midnight.

Permanent Representative of the mission Masud Bin Momen inaugurated the programme delivering welcome speech. The messages of President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, issued on the occasion of the day, were read out in the programme.

Visiting MPs to the New York Muhammad Faruk Khan, Monnujan Sufian, Israfil Alam, Fakhrul Imam, Anwarul Abedin Khan, Jebunnesa Afroz and Roksana Yasmin Suty joined the programme, among others.
