Fugitive killed in gun fight in city
DHAKA, Feb 22, 2019 (BSS) -A fugitive accused in more than one case, including murder and drug, was killed in a gunfight with police at Dayaganj in city’s Jatrabari area in the early hours of today.
The deceased was identified as Hazrat Ali aged 35 who was a top drug peddler in the respective area; DMP Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Wazed Ali confirmed the incident to BSS.
A total of 11 hundred pieces of Yaba, an exploded cocktail and one machete were recovered from the spot. Two police personnel also received injuries in the incident.
The police men: Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Salam and Constable Zahed, were treated at the hospital.
Based on information a team of Jatrabari thana police conducted a drive in the area around 2.15 am, said OC.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, he said peddlers opened fire on the police team forcing them to retaliate for self-defense.
After the gunfight, police arrested the bullet-hit Ali from the scene and took him to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the attending doctors declared him dead, OC added.
A case was filed with the Jatrabari police station in this regard.
