Norway to extend support to maintain peace in Rajshahi: Envoy

RAJSHAHI, Feb 22, 2019 (BSS)- Norwegian Ambassador in Bangladesh Sidsel
Bleken has said her country will extend supports towards maintaining peace
and harmony in Rajshahi city in the days ahead.

She also said her government is always supportive of peace and
tranquility. “We are ready to provide support to uphold peace in Rajshahi as
per of its wish,” she further said while addressing a view-sharing meeting in
the city today.

Sidsel Bleken said existing relation between Bangladesh and Norway is
long-lasting. People of Norway’s Kristiansand city are well-known about
Rajshahi city.

There are also two Kristiansand-Rajshahi City Friendship committees in
both the cities. Bilateral relation between the countries will be
strengthened in the years to come. “We will remain with development of
Rajshahi”, she added.

Kristiansand-Rajshahi City Friendship Committee (KRCFC) hosted the
meeting as conference hall of Rajshahi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.

Fazely Hossain Badsha, MP, attended and addressed the meeting as guest of
honour. Chaired by KRCFC President Mr Dan, the meeting was addressed, among
others, by Rajshahi KRCFC president Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha and its general
secretary Dr Patrick Bipul Biswash, Organizing Secretary Engineer Abul Bashar
and Member Prof Shamsul Alam.

The meeting was told that the friendship between the two cities was
established in 1979 to mark the date back to the War of Liberation when a
Kristiansand photojournalist covered many incidents in Rajshahi and other
regions. It is learnt, Kristiansand city authority took Rajshahi as a sister
city of Kristiansand.

To mark the friendship, a 100-foot by 10-foot mural featuring various
aspects of Bangladesh’s history and culture was also installed at
Kristiansand city in Norway. In his remarks, lawmaker Badsha appraised the
envoy about history, culture, economy, education and activities of Rajshahi
city and its people.

“We are putting in our level best efforts to uphold peace and congenial
atmosphere coupled with establishing con-communal consciousness everywhere in
the society in addition to infrastructure development here,” he added.

Badsha sought Norwegian investment to Rajshshi’s industrial sector
especially agro-processing for employment generation.
