Academics for upholding dignity of Bengali language

RANGPUR, Feb 22, 2019 (BSS) – Academics called upon everyone to uphold the
honour and dignity of Bengali language by ensuring its proper use at all
levels as they were addressing a discussion at Begum Rokeya University,
Rangpur (BRUR) on Thursday.

The function was organised by the university on its Shaheed Minar premises
in observance of the Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day-
2019 through the day-long programmes.

Vice-Chancellor of BRUR Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah addressed the
discussion as the chief guest with Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and
Technology Professor Dr Abu Kalam Md. Farid Ul Islam in the chair.

Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Dr Parimal Chandra Barman, Dean of
the Faculty of Science and President of Begum Rokeya University Teachers’
Association Professor Dr Md. Gazi Mazharul Anwar addressed as special guests.

Head of the Department of Economics Professor Dr Md. Morshed Hossain, Head
of the Department of Public Administration Md. Zubayer Ibne Taher, Provost of
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall Tabiur Rahman Prodhan and President of
BRUR unit of Chhatra League Abu Monnaf Al Kibria Tushar also spoke.

The university authorities chalked out programmes, including placing of
wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, hoisting of national flag at half mast, wearing
black badges, ‘probhat ferry’, poem recitation, quiz competition, milad and
doa mahfils, marking the day.

Earlier, the VC, along with teachers, students, officials and employees
placed wreath at the Shaheed Minar and observed one minute silence there to
pay the due respect to the martyrs of Language Movement and War of
Liberation.

A colourful ‘probaht ferry’ procession, led by the VC, paraded the campus
and adjoining areas singing `Amar Bhayer Rakte Rangano Ekushey February, Ami
Ki Bhulite Pari” and gathered at the Shaheed Minar on the campus.

Deans of different faculties, Heads of different departments, Provosts of
different Halls, teachers, students, officials and employees of the
university, leaders and activists of different students’, sociocultural and
other organisations participated in the procession.

The speakers paid rich tribute to the language movement martyrs for their
supreme sacrifice and recalled glorious role and tremendous contribution of
the teachers during the language movement that sowed the seed inspiring the
nation for ultimate independence.

The chief guest laid emphasis on protecting dignity of Bengali language
and urged teachers of the Department of Bengali of all universities and other
educational institutions to care of this call.
