RANGPUR, Feb 21, 2019 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangshad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today said the Ekushey February is the unique and historical milestone in the life of the Bangalee Nation.

“Under leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the six-point demand of 1966, mass upsurge of 1969 and attaining independence through the bloody War of Liberation in 1971 are tied with the same thread following the language movement of 1952,” she said.

The Speaker said this while addressing a discussion followed by prize distribution programme organised by the upazila administration in observance of the Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day-2019 on central Shaheed Minar premises at Pirganj upazila town here as the chief guest.

At the beginning of the events, Dr Chaudhury along with huge local people observed one-minute silence expressing deep sorrow to mourn the Chalkbazar fearful fire incident in Old Dhaka.

The Speaker said Ekushey means not to bow down as Ekushey inspires us to march forward protesting any injustice and wrongdoing.

“We have to present the spirit and consciousness of Ekushey before the present and future generations. Our mother tongue Bengali, independence and Bangabandhu are integral and inseparable,” she said.

Dr Chaudhury said the educational institutions should have to highlight the glorified struggles of achieving mother tongue Bengali before the next generations and urged everyone to become responsible for maintaining the dignity of mother language.

“We have learnt to move forward in the future, to snatch away just rights and to love language and our nation through the language movement of 1952 and Ekushey February is the inspiration of the War of Liberation of 1971,” she said.

Later, the Speaker distributed prizes among winners of various competitions organised by the upazila administration on the occasion of Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day.
