Quader for recognition of Bengali as UN official language

DHAKA, Feb 21, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today urged the United Nations (UN) to recognize Bengali as its official language.

“We have established February 21 as International Mother Language under the dynamic leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Now I urged the UN to recognize Bengali as its official language,” he said after placing wreaths at Azimpur graveyard here.

He placed the wreaths to express his profound respect to the language heroes on the occasion of the Shaheed Dibosh and the International Mother Language Day.

He also prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls who made supreme sacrifices to the cause of the mother tongue ‘Bangla’ in 1952.

Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman, AL Office-Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, MP, Deputy Minister for Water Resources and AL Organizing Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Agriculture Affairs Secretary Faridunnahar Laily, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi and Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain were also present on the occasion.
