Five killed in Lalmonirhat road accident

RANGPUR, Feb 20, 2019 (BSS) – Five people were killed in a fatal road
accident at Aiirkhamar point near Barobari on the Rangpur-Kurigram highway in
Sadar upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Tuesday night.

“The accident occurred at 9.30 pm when an auto-rickshaw was crushed by a
Dhaka-bound night coach from Kurigram coming from the opposite directions,”
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmonirhat Sadar Thana Mahfuz Alam told BSS today.

The night coach also plunged into the roadside ditch while its driver lost
control over the wheel, he said.

The five passengers of the auto-rickshaw, including two men, a woman and
two children, hailing from different places of Kurigram district were killed
on the spot and four others injured in the accident.

“The deceased were identified as Mahbubar Rahman, 27, of Borderhat Taltola
village and Ashik, 11, of Mondirer Khamar village in Nageswari upazila, Akkel
Ali, 45, of Noleya village in Bhurungamari upazila, Shabana Begum, 40, of
Sibram Kamarpara village and Sharmin Khatun, 12, of Chhatarpur Banderpar
village in Sadar upazila of Kurigram district,” the OC added.

The injured were sent to Kurigram and Lalmonirhat District Sadar Hospitals
from where two of them were shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital
today.

“After identification of the deceased today, their bodies were handed over
to their relatives,” the OC said, adding that a case was filed in this
connection with Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station.
