Local government polls to be competitive, participatory: CEC

DHAKA, Feb 19, 2019 (BSS) – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul
Huda today expressed his optimism that the upcoming local government polls
will be held in a participatory and competitive manner.

“The people of this country likes election so they consider it as
festival,” he told the inaugural ceremony of a training workshop of returning
officers (ROs) and assistant returning officers (AROs) of the third phase
upazila parishad polls at the Agargaon Nirbachan Bhaban here.

The CEC said the upazila parishad elections will be held under party
banner for the first time.

He stressed on coordination among the concerned officials of the election
to hold a free, fair, natural and acceptable polls.

Huda urged the ROs and AROs to remain alert to avoid any violence
centering the polls.
