KHAGRACHHARI, Feb 19, 2019 (BSS)-At least seven people sustained critical injuries from an explosion at a gas cylinders warehouse in Khagrachhari Sadar upazila today.
The victims were identified as Bhuban Bikash Chakma,50, Abdul Hamid, 23, Md Jamir ,22, Mahmud Ulla, Newton Chakma, Minati Chakma ,45, and her husband Mahiranjan Chakma ,52.
All the seven victims were sent to Khagrachhari General Hospital first. Later, four of them- Bhuban Bikash Chakma , Abdul Hamid , Md Jamir and Mahmud Ulla-were rushed to Chittagong Medical College in critical condition, said Dr Nayanmoi Tripura of Khagrachhari General Hospital.
The explosion occurred inside the warehouse at Khabangfuriya village around 5.45am. The victims were sleeping in a grocery shop adjacent to the warehouse when the explosion took place. The wall of the shop collapsed.
Locals recued the victims from the shop and sent them to hospital before the fighter fighters reached the spot.
Officer-in-Charge of Khagrachhari Sadar police station Sahadat Hossain said investigation is underway to unearth the cause of explosion.
