Kalid for making Pangaon Inland Container Terminal profitable

DHAKA, Feb 18, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today urged all concerned including the businessmen and the customs department to work together to make the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal more profitable.

“The Pangaon Inland Container Terminal will be operated in full swing soon,” he said while paying a visit to the terminal in Keraniganj. The state minister also exchanged views with the officials of the terminal at a meeting as the chief guest.

Khalid said that the existing problems at the terminal would be identified and thus would be resolved to move forward this terminal. He also mentioned that the facilities at the terminal would be further enhanced to infuse dynamism here at Pangaon.

“Pangaon Inland Container Terminal has been set up considering the economic and service-oriented aspects while the businessmen and all concerned stakeholders are enjoying its benefits,” he added.

The terminal officials informed the State Minister that in order to infuse dynamism into the activities of the terminal, tariffs have already been reduced as well as ship fares.

Besides, introduction of common carrier agreement, formulation of schedules for ships, banking system, fixation of uniform inland haulage charge, online delivery system are in operation at the terminal.

Chairman of Chattogram Port Authority Rear Admiral Zulfikar Aziz, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Abdul Kuddus Khan, BIWTA Chairman Commodore M Mozammel Haque, Customs Commissioner Ismail Hossain Siraji, Terminal Manager M Sarwar Alam, Kamalapur ICD Manager Ahmedul Kabir were present, among others, at the meeting.

The Pangaon Container Terminal (ICT) launched its operation on November 7 in 2013 on some 89 acres of land on the banks of Buriganga River at Keraniganj.
