SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 18, 2019 (BSS) – Chittagong Hill Tracts (Land Acquisition)
Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was placed today in the Jatiya Sangsad in an
amended form with a view to bring equality in compensation rate on the land
acquisition under the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) area.

Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury placed the bill in the House with Speaker
Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Piloting the bill, the land minister said the bill will replace the Chittagong Hill Tracts
(Land Acquisition) Regulations, 1958. The bill will also revise the sub-section (2)
under the section-4 of the Regulation no1 of 1958.

Earlier, the government has issued an ordinance on December 20 in 2018 to this
end which needs to be transformed into act.

The compensation rate of the acquisition land under the CHT region was only
Taka 115 instead of Taka 100, as per the previous law.

But now it has been raised to more 200 per cent of the land price for the
acquisition land of the government organization/office while it is 300 per cent for
the non-government/individual land acquisition, according to the proposed law.

The minster urged the house to send the bill to the parliamentary standing
committee for providing report within six days.
