Govt to set up one stop crisis centre at upazila level

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 18, 2019 (BSS) – The government has planned to set up
modern one stop crisis centres at upazila level to help the victims of domestic
violence.

“Yes, the government has a plan to set up one stop crisis centre at upazila level to
help the women who get victimised due to domestic violence,” in-charge of the
Women and Children Affairs Ministry in the Parliament Dr Dipu Moni said while
responding to a starred question placed by lawmaker Md Mozzafar Hossain of
Jamalpur-5 in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

The country’s first one stop crisis centre (OCC) was set up at Dhaka Medical
College Hospital under a project of the Women and Children Affairs Ministry, she
said.

Later, Dipu Moni said, similar OCCs were set up at Rajshahi, Chattogram, Sylhet,
Barishal, Rangpur, Faridpur and Cox’s Bazar medical colleges and hospitals to give
services to the women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

“Various services – healthcare, legal assistance, counseling, shelter and DNA test
facility – are being given to the victims at the OCCs,” she said, adding that services
are being given to them who are physically and sexually victimised or are burn
victims.

Noting that 20 one-stop crisis cells are currently operational at different upazilas,
Dipu Moni said more crisis cells will be set at upazila levels in the future.
