Tri-nation motor rally arrives in Bangladesh from India

DHAKA, Feb 17, 2019 (BSS)-Tri-nation motor rally, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, arrived in Bangladesh from India to spread the message of peace and non-violence and promote the message of safe driving.

The motor rally entered Bangladesh through the Petrapole-Benapole border today and will depart to India via Akhaura-Agartala route on February 19, said a media release of Indian High Commission (IHC) in Dhaka.

A flag off event will be held at the High Commission tomorrow. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will attend the event as the chief guest while State Minister for Local Government and Co-operatives Swapan Bhattacharjee as the guest of honour.

Kalinga Motor Sports Club (KMSC), with the support of Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, government of India has organized the motor rally involving 10 vehicles that will cover 7,250 km in 22 days in three countries.

The rally commenced on February 4 at Rajghat and will conclude on February 24 in Yangon.

The rally will pass through Sabarmati, Porbandar, Sewagram, Jabalpur, Dandi, Yervada, Lucknow, Chauri-Chaura, Champaran, Santiniketan and Kolkata. The aim of the rally is to spread the message of peace and non-violence. It will also promote the message of safe driving.

The motor rally delegation comprising of 35 participants and 10 vehicles is led by Shri Shambhu Singh, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India.

An exhibition on photographs of Gandhiji and khadi will be organized. The event will witness participation from representatives of Gandhi Ashrams in Bangladesh, Indian community, school children who participated in the quiz competition Bapu@150, academicians and media. Students of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre will perform at the event.
