‘Heyat Mamud enormously contributed to Bengali literature’

RANGPUR, Feb 17, 2019 (BSS) – Literary personalities and researchers at a
discussion today said noted spiritual poet of the middle-ages Kobi Kazi Heyat
Mamud enormously contributed to Bengali literature through his immortal
writings.

The district administration organised the discussion in observance of the
death anniversary of Heyat Mamud on Jharbishla Hayatul Ulum Alim Madrasa
premises at his birthplace Jharbishla village in Pirganj upazila of the
district.

The death anniversary of Heyat Mamud, widely known as a poet of
spirituality, is being officially observed since 2004 on this day when
hundreds of his followers gather at Jharbishla village to celebrate ‘Urs
Mubarak’ for centuries together.

The district administration arranged ‘Qur’an Khwani`, ‘Mazar Ziarat’, ‘Waz’
and milad mahfils, recitation of Hamd and Naats, poem and essay competitions
for students on th occasion.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md Abdullah Sajjad addressed
the discussion as chief guest with Deputy Director (Local Government) Ruhul
Amin Mian in the chair.

Principal of Jharbishla Hayatul Ulum Alim Madrasa Abdus Salek Sarker
delivered welcome speech in the discussion moderated by Pirganj Upazila
Nirbahi Officer TMA Momin.

Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Begum Rokeya Government College
and literary researcher Professor Shah Alam delivered keynote presentation on
‘Morality of Kobi Heyat Mamud and his Spiritual Thoughts’ as resource person.

Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Pirganj Shah Abdur Rouf
Government College Professor Nurul Amin Raja participated as main discussant.

Assistant Commissioner (land) for Pirganj upazila Sanjoy Kumar, President
of district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League Mehedi Hasan Rony and Officer-
in-Charge of Pirganj Thana Saresh Chandra Roy addressed.

Professor Alam said famous spiritual poet and philosopher of the middle-
ages Heyat Mamud immensely contributed to Bengali literature and humanism of
that time through his immortal writings.

“Heyat Mamud will remain immortal in Bengali literature through his famous
literary works like ‘Jongonama or Moharram Porbo’, ‘Sorboved Bani’, ‘Hitgyan
Bani’ and ‘Ambia Bani’,” Alam added.

Professor Raja discussed literary works of Heyat Mamud and said that his
works would continue to bear important values for Bengali literature of the
present and future times.

“The ideas expressed by Heyat Mamud through literary works around 350
years ago extensively helped enriching modern Bengali literature by bridging
the ancient and modern literature,” Raja added.

The chief guest laid emphasis on nurturing precious literary works of the
poet and preserving those for future generations as rich ancestral history,
culture, heritage and glories for building an enlightened nation.

He urged all to show proper respect to the great poet through mass reading
and reciting his literary works and following his ideals.
