Pulse cultivation gaining popularity in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, Feb 17, 2019 (BSS) – The cultivation of different kinds of
pulses including Motor (pea), Mosur (lentil), Maskolai, Khesari and Mug is
gaining popularity among farmers with exceeding its farming target every
year.

Deputy Director at Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md. Habibur
Rahman said the target of Khesari cultivation was fixed on 3074 hectares of
land in all the seven upazilas of the district with a production target 3702
metric tons last year. But it was cultivated on 3702 hectares of land,
exceeding its fixed target.

During the current season, 3702 hectares of land was brought under Khesari
cultivation in the district. Apart from it, the cultivation target of Mug and
Motor were fixed at 75 and 381 hectares of land in the district respectively,
but 146 hectares and 413 hectares of land were brought under its cultivation,
exceeding those targets, he said.

The vast char areas of Harirampur and Daulatpur Upazila of the district
were brought under Maskalai cultivation, he added.

DAE sources said Mashkalai was cultivated on 4250 hectares of land in
Daulatpur and 3136 hectares of land in Harirampur upazila of the district.

One farmer Ahmad Ali said “pulse cultivation is gaining popularity among
the farmers for its fair prices”.
