Death anniversary of Kobi Heyat Mamud tomorrow

RANGPUR, Feb 16, 2019 (BSS) – The death anniversary of spiritual poet of the Middle Ages Kobi Heyat Mamud will be observed at his birthplace village Jharbishla in Choitrokol union of Pirganj upazila in the district tomorrow.

The district administration has chalked out elaborate day-long programmes and completed all necessary preparations to observe the death anniversary in a befitting manner, officials said today.

The programmes include ‘Qur’an Khwani`, ‘Mazar Ziarat’, milad ‘Waz’ mahfil, mahfil, recitation of Hamd and Nats and poems, essay competition for students and discussion to be held on Jharbishla Hayatul Ulum Alim Madrasa premises in Jharbishla village.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Abdullah Sajjad will attend the discussion on the life and deeds of Kobi Heyat Mamud in Jharbishla village as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the chair.

Principal of Jharbishla Hayatul Ulum Alim Madrasa Abdus Salek Sarker will deliver welcome speech in the discussion to be moderated by Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer TMA Momin.

Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Begum Rokeya Government College and literary researcher Professor Shah Alam will present keynote essay on ‘Morality of Kobi Heyat Mamud and his Spiritual Thoughts’ as the resource person.

Noted literary personality and senior lawyer of Rangpur Judge Court Advocate M A Basher Tipu will participate as the main discussant.

Vice-president of district Awami League (AL) Chhayadat Hossain Bakul, Acting President of Pirganj upazila AL Advocate Azizur Rahman Ranga, its General Secretary of and Pirganj municipality Mayor Tazimul Islam Shamim, will address the discussion.

Talking to BSS, Professor Shah Alam said famous spiritual poet and philosopher of the Middle Ages Kobi Heyat Mamud contributed a lot to the Bengali literature of that time and humanism in the sub-continent through his immortal writings.

“The ideas expressed by the great poet through his unparallel literary works some 350 years ago helped enriching the modern Bengali literature by connecting the literature of the ancient times with the literature of the present modern one,” Alam added.

The literary works like ‘Jongonama or Moharram Porbo’, ‘Sorboved Bani’, ‘Hitgyan Bani’ and ‘Ambia Bani’ are the most famous books written by Kobu Heyat Mamud, he mentioned.
