Govt to preserve all ‘killing fields’ of 1971 martyrs: Mozammel

NETRAKONA, Feb 16, 2019 (BSS) – Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq today said the present government has been working sincerely to identify and preserve all the “killing grounds” (Bodhyo Bhumi) of the martyrs of the Liberation War in 1971.

The minister said this while unveiling the plaque as the chief guest of a newly constructed memorial monument of three martyrs’ students of ‘Mohanganj Pilot Government High School’ on its premises in Mohanganj upazila town of the district with secretary of the Prime Minister’s office and President of former students Samity of the Mohangnaj Pilot Government High School Sazzadul Hasan in the chair.

The three martyrs are Dr Fazlur Rahman, Dobiruddin Ahmed and Anwarul Alam Chowdhory -who were gunned downed by the then Pakistani occupation forces during the Liberation War in 1971.

The minister also said the government has taken steps to mark different roads across the country naming after the martyred freedom fighters aiming to show respect to them for their supreme sacrifice for achieving the country’s independence.

Referring to many steps undertaken by the government for giving state honor to the freedom fighters and improving their socio-economic conditions, he said the government led by Premier Sheikh Hasina will do everything possible to give honor to the freedom fighters and uphold the spirit of the liberation war.

The function was addressed, among others, by the State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Md Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, Awami League’s Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Dhaka University Professor Muntassir Mamoon, Netrakona Deputy Commissioner Main-UL-Islam, Police Super of Netrakona Joydeb Chowdhory and chairman of Mohanganj Upazila Parishad AKM Shafiqul Islam.
