Book-reading habit builds enlightened nation: Sujan

RANGPUR, Feb 16, 2019 (BSS) – Railways Minister Advocate Md Nurul Islam
Sujan has asked everybody for building book-reading habit to enhance
knowledge for building an enlightened society as well as an enlightened
nation.

“The educational institutions should take adequate initiatives to generate
interest among the students and young generations in book-reading, literary
and cultural activities to enrich our cultural and literary heritage,” he
said.

The Minister made these observations while addressing a function in the
inaugural ceremony of the week-long ‘Bhasha Sainik Muhammad Sultan Book Fair-
2019’ in Panchagarh town on Friday night as the chief guest.

The Panchagarh District Administration is organising the fair at
Panchagarh Government auditorium in observance of the ‘Mohan Shaheed Dibash
and International Mother Language Day-2019’.

With Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Sabina Yasmin in the chair, Police
Super Gias Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary of Panchagarh district Awami League
Anwar Sadat Samrat addressed the function as special guests.

The district level government officials, academicians, teachers, students,
youth, civil society members, politicians, professionals and elite were
present, among others, on the occasion.

Different institutions and organisations set up 30 stalls on the fair
premises displaying varieties of books.

The minister unveiled covers of three books ‘Tirnoi’ written by Sabina
Yasmin, ‘Bacto Bipul’ written by Suman Jihadi and ‘Sada Moner Manush’ written
by Khurshida Islam Kona in the inaugural function of the fair.

The speakers put emphasis on increasing habit of reading books by all
people and encourage the others to acquire more knowledge in the process of
building an enlightened society.

Sujan called upon all concerned to uphold the values and sprit of the
great Language Movement that sowed the seed for the struggle for Independence
which was achieved by the nation in 1971 through the Great War of Liberation.

“Reading of books always enhances knowledge through removing ignorance and
immorality from the mindset of everybody to enlighten the people and society
as well as the nation as a whole,” the minister added.
