Dredging underway in 25 rivers: Minister

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 14, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury today said dredging was underway in 25 rivers including several dead and nearly dead ones to keep up navigability in riverine routes.
“The dredging is going on in 25 rivers . . . it will continue till 2026,” he told the Jatiya Sangsad replying to a starred question placed by treasury bench lawmaker M Israfil Alam from Naogaon.
He said of the 25 rivers, 13 were nearly dead and or dried up.
The dead and dried up rivers are Kongso, Mogra, Chalti, Dudkumar, Rokti, Baulai, Rakshaw-Nalar river, Arial kha, Monu, Atrai, Buri, Natun river and Moynakata river.
