Dhaka, Jakarta set to sign PTA to boost trade

DHAKA, Feb 13, 2019 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today said
Bangladesh and Indonesia is moving ahead to sign the preferential trade
agreement (PTA) to boost bilateral trade.

The minister told media after a meeting with Indonesian Ambassador to
Bangladesh Rina Soemarno at his ministry office.

He said there are some problems related to issuing visa, and initiative
would be taken to solve those.

Mentioning that Bangladesh has potential to export leather goods,
pharmaceuticals, readymade garment and other products to Indonesian market,
the minister said quick initiative would be taken to tap this opportunity.

The envoy said Indonesia has taken decision to invest in Bangladesh’s
power sector as both the countries have been maintaining a long standing
business and trade relations.

She said Indonesian tourists want to visit Bangladesh, but visa
complexities need to be minimized to this end.
