Law enforcers working for peace in country: PM
SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 13, 2019 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the
law enforcement agencies have been working to bring those disrupting peace and
discipline in the country by identifying and nabbing them.
“The government’s stance is tough against criminals and the government is committed
to maintaining overall law and order in the country,” she said, while responding to a
starred question placed by a Treasury bench member M Mamunur Rashid Kiron of
Noakhali-3 in the Jatiya Sangsad with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury in the
chair.
Terming the Awami League government as a pro-people government, Sheikh Hasina said
“We are aware about vested quarters so that they do not succeed in creating a
situation of anarchy to destabilize the country.”
“Legal measures will be taken by identifying them, who will be responsible for
destroying peace in the country and destroying the good image of communal harmony. If
our existing communal harmony is under threat, we will control it with an iron hand,”
she said.
The Prime Minister said the government has undertaken various programmes against
terrorism and militancy to build a non-communal nation-state.
The programmes are anti-terrorism and anti–militancy sermons at Baitul Mokarram
National Mosque and all other mosques in the country. The sermon of Baitul Mokarram
National Mosque is broadcast live by News24.
Bangladesh Television broadcasts two weekly programmes -Context Sermon and
Passengers of the Light (Alor Path Jatri) in collaboration with Islamic Foundation.
Imams of 55,180 mosques have been delivering anti-militancy and anti-terrorism
speeches during the sermons under the ‘Mosque-based-children-and-mass education
programme’ of the Islamic Foundation.
Regular anti-terrorism and anti-militancy emergency meetings, seminars and rallies
were held at upazila, district and divisional levels. Training is also being imparted
to Imams for building awareness against terrorism and militancy across the country.
