Boosting agricultural production for food security stressed

RAJSHAHI, Feb 13, 2019 (BSS)- Scientists and researchers concerned have
unequivocally called for giving more importance towards agriculture sector
and its sub-sectors for boosting the agricultural production to feed the
gradually rising population.

They put emphasis on the successful promotion of the new agri-
technology, high-yielding seeds and agricultural inventions to attain the
cherished goal of food security.

They made this observation while addressing a post-rally discussion at
office premises of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Rajshahi city
today. Local unit of Krishibeed Institutions Bangladesh (KIB) organized the
rally and discussion in observance of the Krishibeed Day-2019.

Principal Scientific Officer of Fruit Research Station Dr Alim Uddin,
Assistant Director of Department of Livestock Services Ismail Haque, KIB
local unit secretary Polash Sarker, Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder and Dr Hemayetul
Islam from Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Rajshahi
University, among others, addressed the meeting.

The discussants mentioned that large-scale adoption of farm
mechanisation can be the effective means of facing the existing agriculture
related challenges in the drought-prone Barind area.

They identically observed that the region’s agriculture is facing many
challenges including climate change, labour shortage, irrigation water
scarcity and increase in crop cultivation cost. So, promotion of farm
mechanisation has become indispensable to address the multiple problems.

They told the meeting that the agriculturists are contributing to
achieve food security and sustainability of the country. All should help and
support the efforts of agriculturists for the sake of the country’s economic
growth and prosperity.
