Re-excavation of Dhirer Khal progressing fast in Gobindaganj

GAIBANDHA, Feb 13, 2019 (BSS) – A 8 km long re-excavation work of Dhirer
Khal from Paroil to Panitala Bridge under Razahar and Shakhahar unions of
Gobindaganj upazila in the district is progressing fast.

With the financial support of Bogura-Dinajpur Zila Small Irrigation
Development project, BADC Gaibandha region is implementing the work at the
cost of TK 81.47 lakh, office sources said.

The objective of the work is to remove the stagnant water from the land
lying on it’s both sides during the rainy season so that the local farmers
can cultivate T-Aman paddy on the land easily from the next season, said an
official.

After the implementation of the project, the farmers will be able to use
the reserved water of the canal for irrigation to cultivate Boro paddy on the
land during the dry season.

Executive engineer of BADC, Gaibandha region Chittaranjan Roy said about
75 percent work of the canal had already been completed and the rest work
would be completed within few weeks.
