Country reaches to new height of dignity under PM’s leadership: MPs

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 12, 2019 (BSS) – Lawmakers from treasury and opposition benches today said Bangladesh has now reached to a new height globally under the efficient, uncompromising and farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership helped Bangladesh to reach a new height of dignity and instance of development,” Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim today told the House while taking part in the thanksgiving motion on the President speech delivered on January 30 last.

He said being the leader of the ruling Awami league, country’s one of the oldest political parties, Sheikh Hasina proved her big heart by giving shelter the forcibly displaced Rohingyas.

“She (the premier), in the meantime, has established herself as a mother of exploited, oppressed and helpless people . . . World now recalls her as a mother of humanity,” the minister added.

About the housing for all people, the minister informed the parliament that the present government is working relentlessly to provide housing for all people.

“It’s not so far that all government officers and employees would get housing facilities,” the housing minister said.

Referring to the President’s 158-page speech, he said the address of the head of the state was the vivid focus on government’s activities and successes in different areas, including economy, trade and commerce, agriculture, power, education, health, good governance, women and children development and information and communication technology (ICT) and establishing rule of law.

“Due to pragmatic and time-befitting steps of the government, Bangladesh economy is now in strong position, which is acclaimed globally specially by different international economic agencies,” treasury bench member Abdus Shahid said while taking part in the discussion on President Address.

Referring to tremendous development and progress under the uncompromising and charismatic leadership of the Prime Minister, he said, “People elected me a lawmaker for the sixth consecutive term but it’s only for the blessings of Sheikh Hasina as voters voted her and the Awami League as well.”

Treasury bench members – Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam Bir Pratik, SM Rejaul Karim and Tanvir Imam, Abdul Mannan of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, opposition bench member Shameem Haider Patwari also took part in the discussion with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

They, however, hailed the address of President M Abdul Hamid in the parliament terming it as a time-befitting speech and a unique document of country’s development. The lawmakers hailed the present government of Sheikh Hasina for assuming power for three consecutive periods since 2008.

At the very outset of their respective discussions, they paid a rich tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
