SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 12, 2109 (BSS) -Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder today said despite the burden of hosting the forcibly displaced Rohingyas, there is no possibility of a food crisis as the country’s current food stock was adequate.

“There is no possibility of food crisis in the country as the country’s current food grain stock was 15,30,317 metric tons,” the minister said while responding to a question from Opposition lawmaker Syed Abu Hossain Babla during the question and answer session in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the Chair.

Referring to the food reserve in the country, he informed the House that under the efficient leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh had achieved self-sufficiency in food.

Besides, the Directorate General of Food and the World Food Programme, as per a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), is supplying necessary food to several lakh Rohingyas.

Replying to another query of Treasury bench member Nijam Hazari, the minister said the government is also providing various facilities to farmers including agriculture material and subsidy.
