Rohingya crisis will be resolved, hopes Mannan

DHAKA, Feb 12, 2019 (BSS) – Planning Minister MA Mannan today hoped that
the forcibly displaced Rohingyas would be gradually repatriated from
Bangladesh to Myanmar and thus the Rohingya crisis would be resolved.

“We hope that the Rohingya crisis will be resolved as well believe in
resolving any problem through discussion. We want to maintain good relations
with our neighbors and also pursue the main theme of our foreign policy which
is ‘Friendship to all and malice to none’,” he said.

The Minister was addressing a seminar on “Rohingya Crisis-Global Challenge”
held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) in the City’s
Kakrail area.

He said based on the foreign policy, Bangladesh had been able to resolve
various disputes with its neighbors like maritime boundary with India and
Myanmar.

Chairman of Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman
Ahmad, Engineer Mouazzaman Hossain Ratan, MP, International Organization for
Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission in Bangladesh Giorgi Gigauri, Assistant IGP
Taptun Nasreen, Senior Human Rights Adviser of UN in Bangladesh Heike Alefsen
spoke at the seminar as special guests.

Chaired by President of IDEB AKMA Hamid, its General Secretary Md Shamsur
Rahman gave the welcome address.

Prof Christine Jubb of Swinburne University of Technology, Australia and
senior lecturer of the same university Mohsin Habib made the key-note
presentations.

Mannan said the government is dealing with the Rohingya crisis with utmost
patience and tolerance adding, “We also hope that the international community
including the UN, ASEAN, EU will continue to play their due role in this
regard.”

He also expressed his firm belief that the government would be able to
handle the issue through continuing efforts in diplomatic channel with
patience and cool head.

“We definitely want the solution of this problem through discussion. Our
Prime Minister is also moving cautiously and we’re hopeful of reaching to our
desired goal,” the planning minister added.

Noting that it’s very difficult to estimate the financial loss of the
Rohingyas as they were forcibly displaced from their motherland, their houses
were burnt, women were tapped, Mannan said, “The main thing would be to
ensure that the Rohingyas can go back to their motherland with dignity as
early as possible.”

Extending his heartfelt thanks to the international community for their
overall support to the forcibly displaced Rohingyas in Bangladesh, he hoped
that the International community would continue to help us to mitigate the
challenge, repatriation of the Rohingyas to their homeland is done quickly,
smoothly and they are fully compensated.
