RANGPUR, Feb 12 2019 (BSS) – Agriculturists at a function today stressed on adoption of modern agriculture technologies to increase crop production for ensuring national food security despite adverse impacts of climate change.
They viewed this at concluding ceremony of four-day ‘District Agriculture Technology Fair-2019′ organised by the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) on Khamarbari premises in the city this afternoon.
The Integrated Agriculture, Nutrition and Food Project and Integrated Agriculture Productivity Project extended assistance in arranging the fair to introduce farmers and ordinary people with modern agricultural technologies.
Different departments, organisations and corporations under the Ministry of Agriculture set up stalls on fairground displaying modern agriculture technologies and machineries and focusing achievements by farmers in farm-activities.
With Deputy of the DAE Agriculturist Dr Md Sarwarul Alam in the chair, Principal of Rangpur Tazhat Agriculture Training Institute Agriculturist Md Mohammad Ali addressed the concluding faction as the chief guest.
Principal Scientific Officer of Rangpur Regional Station of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Centre Agriculturist Roich Uddin Chowdhury and Joint Director (Fertilisers) of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation Agriculturist Md Delwar Hossain addressed as special guests.
A large number of farmers, common people, agriculture officials, experts and scientists, representatives of different farmers’ organisations, teachers, students, young generations, socio-cultural activists, civil society members and elite were present.
The agriculturists said the country has achieved epoch-making success in the agriculture sector in increasing crop production following pragmatic and time-befitting steps taken by the present pro-people government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Agriculturist Sarwarul Alam said farmers are producing 30 to 32 mounds of paddy per bigha of land now using modern technologies and subsidies being provided by the present government toward the directions in place of 10 to 12 mounds in the pasts.
The chief guest said the present government puts maximum emphasis on adapting to climate change for keeping crop production increasing by ensuring optimum use of cultivable land and adopting modern agriculture technologies.
He urged the agriculture scientists, researchers, experts and farmers for expanded adoption of the modern agriculture technologies to increase crop production consistently to meet food demand for the growing population.
At the end, the chief guest distributed prizes among the stall owners for displaying the best agriculture technologies and achievements in the fair.
