Experts for strengthening normal delivery facilities in rural areas

RANGPUR, Feb 12, 2019 (BSS) – Health experts at an orientation workshop
have laid emphasis on strengthening normal delivery facilities at union level
health facilities round the clock to further reduce maternal and neonatal
mortality rates.

The Maternal and Child Health Services Unit of the Directorate of Family
Planning organised the workshop on “Strengthening of full-time normal
delivery facilities at Union Health and Family Welfare Centres (UHFWCs)” at
Kaliganj upazila parishad auditorium in Lalmonirhat on Monday.

The union parisahd chairmen, general members and female members,
officials of the Department of Family Planning and Health, Kawnia Upazila
Health Complex, UHFWCs and NGO representatives attended the workshop.

Divisional Director of the Department of Family Planning Md Mahbub Alam
attended the workshop as the chief guest with Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi
Officer Rabiul Hassan in the chair.

Civil Surgeon of Lalmonirhat Dr Md Kashem Ali, Deputy Director (Local
Government) Jahurul Islam, Deputy Director of the Department of Family
Planning Dr Harun Ur Rashid and Kaliganj Upazila Chairman Dr Md. Abu Kalam
Azad spoke as special guests.

The speakers put emphasis on coordinated efforts of the grassroots level
pubic representatives in strengthening services at the UHFWCs to ensure
normal delivery facilities for rural mothers to reduce unnecessary Caesarean
operations in commercial hospitals.

The Civil Surgeon sought cooptation of all concerned to strengthening
managements in the UHFWCs, Upazila Health Complexes and other rural health
facilities to ensure normal delivery of pregnant mothers in rural areas.

Mahbub Alam said “Adequate steps must be taken to ensure normal delivery
round the clock at all rural health facilities to ultimately bring the
maternal, neonatal and infant mortality rates to the zero level on way to
attaining the sustainable development goals.”
