Bangladesh to be world’s 24th economy by 2032: Matia

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 10, 2019 (BSS) – Senior Parliamentarian Begum Matia Chowdhury today said Bangladesh’s economy under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would be 24th world’s largest economy by 2032 as its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth is now around 8 per cent.

Quoting the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) in London, she said Bangladesh would be the 24th world’s largest economy by 2032 and Asian economies will witness significant growth in the next 15 years.

She said while taking part at the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President M Abdul Hamid’s speech delivered in the 11th parliament on January 30 last.

Criticizing BNP and its allies’ destructive activities, Matia said BNP tried to kill Sheikh Hasina several times aimed at implementing its agendas but they repeatedly failed.

About the 11th Jatiya Sangsad election polls, Matia said the election was held in a free and fair manner under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with the participation of all registered political parties.

She said before the polls, the premier discussed various issues related to elections with the Jatiya Okyafront leaders.

Referring to BNP’s vandalism and arson attacks, she said the BNP gutted buses, motor vehicles, vandalized properties and killed innocent people including minor boys and girls by arson attacks in the name of movement in 2014, adding, “The BNP has no future because it’s only vision to destroy the country.”

Matia said the President truly focused on various development activities of the government under the efficient leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the last 10 years.

Shah-e Alam, Muslemuddin, Ruhul Amin Madani, M A Matin, also took part in the discussion and said the head of the state, in his 158-page speech on January 30 in 2018, on the first day of the maiden session in 2019 of the parliament, highlighted different development activities in various sectors including socio-economic, political, cultural, education, youth and sports, information and communication technology (ICT) and foreign relations.

They hailed the present government of Sheikh Hasina for assuming power for three consecutive periods since 2008.

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.

At the very outset of their respective discussions, they paid a rich tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his outstanding contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
