DHAKA, Feb 10, 2019 (BSS) – Amar Ekushey Book Fair wore a festive look today as thousands of enthusiastic booklovers turned the venue of the month-long event into an animated occasion with visitors looking for their favourite books.

Hundreds of children crowded the Sishu Prahar, adding joyful cheers and festivity to the fair.

Bangla Academy has organised ‘Shishu Chattar’ this year where children along with guardians enjoy ‘Shishu Prahar (children time)’ during the fair.

The number of booklovers increased manifold in the afternoon.

Unveiling a new book at the fair, State Minister Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali said it is his pleasure to see a huge number of people gathered here to listen lectures with rapt attention on books. “Seeing the people’s love for books, I am very happy,” he added.

He said everyone knows the history that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered his historical speech at Suhrawardy Udyan on March 7, 1971. “As long as Bangladesh survives, its people will remember him. Bangabandhu is the source of our inspiration,” he added.

A total of 90 new books hit the fair today, increasing the number to 1,340 in 10 days.

The book fair remains open for all from 3 pm to 9 pm on working days and 8:30 am to 9 pm on government holidays with a one-hour break for lunch and offering prayers. It will continue till February 28.
