President’s address a unique document of country’s progress: lawmakers

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 7, 2019 (BSS) -Treasury bench members today said the address of President M Abdul Hamid in parliament was a unique document of country’s overall progress and development.

Taking part in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President’s address in the Jatiya Sangsad on January 30, they said it is a vivid picture of country’s development under the efficient leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the past 10 years.

They also urged different political parties and quarters, who are frequently spreading negative things against the government, to go through his 158-page speech to know about the details of the development activities of the Awami League government assumed state-power by getting a landslide majority.

In the speech of the head of the state, the lawmakers said, highlighted Sheikh Hasina government’s activities and successes in different areas, including economy, trade and commerce, agriculture, power, education, health, good governance, women and children development and information and communication technology (ICT).

“Due to pragmatic and time-befitting steps of the government, Bangladesh economy is now in strong position, which is acclaimed globally specially by different international economic agencies,” treasury bench member Faruk Khan form Goplaganj-1 said while taking part in the discussion on President address.

Referring to tremendous development and progress under the uncompromising and charismatic leadership of the Prime Minister, he said per capita income and average age were increased; the child and mother mortality rate came down with worldwide appreciation.

Faruk, also former minister, mentioned that eight percent GDP rate and overall economic situation, adding, “If this trend continues, Bangladesh will be able to hold the 28th place in world economy in 2020.”

Three others lawmakers- Israfil Alam from Naogaon-1, Shafiqul Islam Shimul from Natore-2 and Mohammad Akhteruzzaman form Khulna-6 also took part in the discussion in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

They hailed the present government of Sheikh Hasina for assuming power for three consecutive periods since 2008.

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.

At the very outset of their respective discussions, they paid a rich tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
