HC declares govt policy over coaching business as valid

DHAKA, Feb 7, 2019 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today declared the government policy formulated in 2012 to stop coaching business at all the government and private educational institutions as valid.

The HC bench comprising Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the verdict after hearings on separate writ petitions in this regard.

Lawyers in their submission to the court said as per the verdict, teachers cannot run coaching classes flouting the policy. Deputy Attorney General Md Mokhlesur Rahman took part in the hearing on behalf of the state while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan and Barrister Tania Amir took part in the petition on behalf of Anti-Corruption Commission and petitioners respectively.

Khurshid Alam said the HC also declared the inspection of ACC in the both government and private educational institutions as legal. The government announced a policy titled ‘Policy-2012 to stop teachers from doing coaching business in educational institutes’ on June 20, 2012.

As per the policy, a teacher can teach a maximum of 10 students of other institutions a day with prior permission from the head of their respective institutions.
